What it means to be an Approved EV Charger Installer
As an approved EV charger installer, Redding Electric provides professional Level 2 home and commercial charging station installation across Southern Ontario - with dedicated circuits, all major brands supported, ESA permits, and inspection included.
Not all electricians are approved to install EV charging equipment. As an approved installer, Redding Electric has been vetted and authorized to install EV charging systems to the standards required by charging equipment manufacturers and provincial programs - meaning your installation is done right, your warranty is protected, and you may qualify for available rebates and incentives.
Our approved status means we follow manufacturer-specific installation requirements, use the correct wiring methods and breaker sizing for each charger model, and provide the documentation you need for warranty claims, rebate applications, and ESA inspections.

What's Included in Every Redding Electric EV Installation
Every EV charger installation we complete includes the following - no hidden extras, no surprises on invoice day.
01
Panel Assessment
Before any work begins, we assess your existing electrical panel to confirm it can handle the additional load of a Level 2 charger (typically 40–50 amps). If your panel needs an upgrade first, we'll tell you upfront with a clear quote - no surprises. Many older Ontario homes with 100-amp service require a panel upgrade before EV charger installation.
02
ESA Permit Application
In Ontario, EV charger installation requires an Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) permit. As a licensed ECRA/ESA contractor (#7016309), we handle the permit application on your behalf. This is a mandatory step - any electrician who skips it is operating illegally, and your homeowner's insurance may be voided in the event of a claim.
03
Dedicated Circuit Installation
We run a new dedicated 240V circuit from your panel to your chosen charger location - typically your garage or carport. Circuit sizing depends on your charger's amperage requirements (most Level 2 home chargers require a 40–60 amp circuit). We use the correct wire gauge, conduit type, and breaker to match the manufacturer's specifications exactly.
04
Charger Mounting & Connection
We mount your charger unit at the correct height and location - factoring in your vehicle's charge port location, cable length, and weatherproofing requirements for outdoor installs. All connections are made to manufacturer specifications, which is particularly important for maintaining your charger's warranty and meeting approved installer program requirements.
05
ESA Inspection & Sign-Off
Once installation is complete, the ESA inspector visits to verify the work. As your licensed contractor, we coordinate the inspection appointment and are on-site to address any inspector questions. You receive the inspection certificate - which you'll need for rebate applications, home insurance documentation, and any future property sale.
06
Walk-Through & Handoff
We walk you through how to operate your new charger, set up any smartphone app connectivity, configure charging schedules for off-peak hydro rates, and answer any questions.
You leave knowing exactly how to get the most out of your new charging setup.
Ontario EV Charger Rebates & Incentives
Several rebate and incentive programs are available to Ontario homeowners and businesses who install Level 2 EV chargers. Being an approved installer means Redding Electric customers can take full advantage of applicable programs.
Federal iZEV Program: The Government of Canada's Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles program has historically provided rebates for EV purchases that can offset charging infrastructure costs. Check tc.canada.ca for current eligibility.
Ontario Electricity Rebate & Time-of-Use Rates: Ontario EV owners can benefit from overnight time-of-use hydro rates (as low as 8.7¢/kWh off-peak), making it significantly cheaper to charge overnight. Your new charger can be programmed to charge during off-peak windows automatically.
Employer & Condo Program: Various Ontario utilities and municipalities offer incentives for workplace and multi-unit residential EV charger installations. Ask us about commercial and multi-unit installations.

How long does EV charger installation take?
A straightforward Level 2 home installation - panel has capacity, charger location is in the garage near the panel - typically takes 2–4 hours.
